What this check can and can't tell you
It tells you whether the image shows signs of AI generation. It cannot tell you whether a document is genuine, valid or belongs to the person sending it. A real photo of a forged card will pass; a real card photographed badly may raise a flag. Treat the result as a reason to ask for more, never as identity verification.
Warning signs in an ID photo
- The card is perfectly flat and evenly lit, with no glare, thickness or edges visible — like a scan, not a photo.
- Fonts that differ between fields, or text that doesn't align with the printed lines.
- Security features (holograms, microprint, ghost images) missing or looking painted on.
- The portrait looks too clean or doesn't match other photos of the person.
- Dates that don't add up: expiry before issue, age inconsistent with the date of birth.
Better ways to verify identity
- See the physical document in person when you can.
- Ask for a short live video holding the ID next to their face.
- For regulated businesses, use a dedicated identity-verification provider with liveness checks.
Privacy of ID images
ID photos are sensitive. Content Credentials and metadata are read on your device. For the pattern model a resized copy goes to our detection provider and is not stored by us — details in the privacy policy. If that isn't acceptable for a particular document, stop after the on-device result.
